Are you a writer ?
Nikki here
A friend of one of my daughters asked me what I was doing on the net. I lie, she didnt actually say ‘What are you doing?’ She messaged me ‘Wuut’ which I took to mean What you up to. Amazing how quickly you end up understanding the text talk of the younger generation.
‘I’m writing a story, ‘ I replied. ‘Oh’, she said, suprised, ’are you a writer?’
I paused, then said yes, immediately feeling guilty. After all, Am I a writer? What qualifies me to tell people that I’m a writer. Is it if I’ve been published? (ok, I have) Or is it the amount of time I spend at the keyboard. If it’s the latter then I can confidently confirm, I am most definately one.
I shall keep thinking on this one.
When I started writing back in 1996, I never envisaged that my life ten years later would revolve around story- lines, plots, and characters. That whilst ironing, I would be planning my mc’s next move. As I dusted throughout the living room, I’d create a new character. Even mowing the lawn, and ‘ping’ an idea would be created. While reading to my children, I would constantly look out for bad Spag, and reading best sellers, would wonder at how changes in POV can really work so well.
I think I’ve probably answered my own question.
